Holistic Bodywork in Los Angeles — Where Structural Healing Meets the Whole Person

The body does not separate physical pain from emotional experience. Neither do we.
At The Bluff Technique Healing Center in Westwood, Los Angeles, holistic bodywork is not a marketing term. It is a clinical philosophy — one grounded in the understanding that chronic pain, structural restriction, and physical limitation are rarely purely mechanical. They are whole-person phenomena that require a whole-person response.
Jimmy Bluff brings more than 20 years of advanced fascial therapy expertise. Maria Bluff brings formal training in Jungian depth psychology and somatic coaching. Together, the AMR™ holistic bodywork approach addresses what most practices cannot: the complete human being who is in pain.
The Science of the Mind-Body Connection in Pain
The relationship between psychological experience and physical pain is not metaphorical. It is physiological. MedlinePlus, from the National Library of Medicine, notes that psychological factors such as mood and stress can make chronic pain worse.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that long-term stress affects the body as well as the mind, and many clients notice that their tension and pain rise and fall with their stress levels. Many practitioners describe this as fascia holding stress.
This is why clients who have resolved the structural contributors to their pain through AMR™ fascial work often experience not only physical relief but emotional shifts — a sense of weight lifted, patterns relaxed, a different relationship with their own body. And it is why clients for whom emotional and psychological factors are significant contributors to their pain presentation benefit from having both dimensions addressed simultaneously.
What Holistic Bodywork at The Bluff Technique Includes
Holistic bodywork sessions at The Bluff Technique integrate:
AMR™ Fascial Therapy — Jimmy's full Advanced Muscle Reconstruction protocol addressing the physical fascial architecture. No session begins without structural assessment. No restriction is addressed without understanding where it fits in the body's whole-system pattern.
Somatic Awareness Work — guided attention to sensation, breath, and body response during fascial release. This is not psychotherapy. It is the recognition that tissue release is more complete — and integrates more durably — when the nervous system is consciously present and engaged rather than braced and defended.
Jungian Somatic Coaching (Maria Bluff) — available as an integrated component or as standalone sessions, Maria's depth-psychology-informed approach works with the symbolic, emotional, and psychological dimensions of physical holding patterns. This is particularly relevant for clients whose pain has a clear emotional or trauma history.
Nervous System Regulation — the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes how the body's stress response affects physical health. AMR™ holistic sessions explicitly attend to nervous system state throughout treatment, facilitating the parasympathetic shift that enables deep tissue release.

Frequently Asked Questions — Holistic Bodywork
Is holistic bodywork the same as massage?
No. Holistic bodywork at The Bluff Technique integrates AMR™ fascial therapy — a precision structural intervention — with somatic awareness and optional depth-psychology coaching. It is a comprehensive therapeutic experience with a different scope, depth, and clinical framework than massage.
Do I have to do the psychological coaching component?
No. The somatic coaching and Jungian depth work with Maria are available as integrated or standalone components. Many clients begin with pure AMR™ fascial sessions and naturally move into the holistic framework as their work progresses.
Is this appropriate for trauma survivors?
Yes, with care. Both Jimmy and Maria are experienced in working with clients who have complex trauma histories. The no-force, consent-centered nature of AMR™ makes it particularly safe and appropriate for trauma-sensitive presentations. Maria's Jungian coaching creates a psychologically safe container for any emotional material that arises.
What conditions does holistic bodywork address?
The full spectrum of fascial and pain conditions addressed throughout this practice — with particular emphasis on presentations where emotional, stress, or trauma factors are significant contributors. This includes fibromyalgia, chronic widespread pain, anxiety-driven tension, stress-related headaches, and post-trauma somatic restriction.
How long are holistic bodywork sessions?
Sessions are typically 90 minutes. Integrated AMR™ + somatic coaching sessions run 90–120 minutes. Jimmy will discuss the ideal format during your initial consultation.
