The Bluff Technique

Services — Myofascial Release and Fascial Therapy in Los Angeles

Jimmy Bluff demonstrating to a group of students

Every service at The Bluff Technique Healing Center starts from one principle: fascia, the connective tissue that wraps and links the whole body, responds best to patient, sustained engagement rather than force. Jimmy Bluff's method, The Bluff Technique™ / Advanced Muscle Reconstruction (AMR™), works across the fascial layers and sequences each session for the whole body. Sessions are available at our Westwood studio or as concierge visits anywhere in Los Angeles and nationally. Looking for help with a specific symptom? Start on our conditions page.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Our foundational service. Sustained, no-force work through the connective tissue helps ease restrictions, improve mobility and change how the body organizes itself. A good starting point for first-time clients and for anyone dealing with stiffness, pain or limited range of motion.

The Bluff Technique™

Jimmy Bluff's own method, also called Advanced Muscle Reconstruction (AMR™). It combines layer-by-layer fascial work with whole-body structural sequencing, so a change in one area is supported by the rest of the body. This is the core of our practice and the method taught at Bluff Academy.

Chronic Pain Relief

For people living with long-standing pain, including back, neck, hip or widespread pain. Sessions are carefully paced and designed to complement medical care. The NIH's NCCIH notes that "a growing body of evidence suggests that some complementary approaches, such as acupuncture, hypnosis, massage, ... may help to manage some painful conditions." Many of our clients report meaningful changes over a series of sessions.

Sports Recovery Bodywork

For runners, cyclists, surfers, lifters and competitive athletes. The work targets the repetitive-strain patterns that build up through training and competition. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis in PubMed Central, based on 78 effect sizes from 10 studies, found that myofascial release "had a moderate effect on ROM performance in athletes when compared to the active or passive control groups."

Frequently Asked Questions — Myofascial Release Services

Which service should I book first?

Most new clients start with Myofascial Release Therapy or a full Bluff Technique™ session. At your first visit, Jimmy assesses your structure and history and recommends the services that fit your goals.

What is the difference between The Bluff Technique™ and regular myofascial release?

Standard myofascial release often focuses on one area. The Bluff Technique™ / AMR™ uses no-force, sustained engagement through one fascial layer after another, sequenced for the whole body. It addresses how your body is organized, not just where it hurts.

Do you offer sessions outside the Westwood studio?

Yes. Concierge outcall sessions are available throughout Los Angeles, including Bel Air, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Sherman Oaks, and in other cities by arrangement.

Is myofascial release covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your plan and is often limited for bodywork. Some clients use HSA or FSA funds. Check with your insurer or plan administrator.
